Importing from Ancestry.com to Reunion question
I am considering buying Reunion. I downloaded the demo version to check it out and so far it looks like it will work. But the demo won't allow you to export or import. My big concern is what information will it import from Ancestry.com? Is it just names and dates or will each person's timeline be imported as well. For example, will the information from attached census records, marriage records, etc. be included? How about pictures that I have copied from other people?
Thanks for any help!!

Re: Importing from Ancestry.com to Reunion question
Hi Irene,
No one replied to my post but I went ahead and bought it anyway. I haven't had time to use it a lot, but I did import one of my trees from Ancestry.com so I might can (and will be happy to) answer questions for you.
My import seems to be intact. Names, dates, places are all there. The sources are there but only the name of the source and the link. The actual source document did not import. For example, say that John Smith was born in New York, NY in 1900. Next to his name and birth date, there is a subscript number that is also listed in the source section. You can click on it next to his name and it will take you to the source section where it says, "1900 US Federal Census" and in the details section it lists the city, county and state. However, you can't view the census record. That has to be copied separately from Ancestry.com and then placed in the picture file of Reunion. I use iPhoto for this and it's drag and drop, very easy.
I hope this helps you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Re: Importing from Ancestry.com to Reunion question
I have the opposite question! Is it possible to export from Reunion to Ancestry web site? (Ancestry seems to be PC-centric.....)

Re: Importing from Ancestry.com to Reunion question
Yes, you can download from Ancestry.com to Reunion. I needed to be able to see my research when I was somewhere without an internet connection as well.
See my post above about what will export and what won't. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Re: Importing from Ancestry.com to Reunion question
If you click help and type in gedcom. There are instructions on how to do it. I just found them today after searching with a number of words and phrases.
Basically, open up tree on ancestry.com that you want to export. click Tree Settings and you will see box on right that talks about managing trees. click it once to create gedcom and then you will need to click the box again to dowload it. Hope this helps
