When I select print preview or publish (possible other options too) I get an error message in a dialogue box "Could not find PDF-Exchange Driver".

Why? What's the solution?

I have Adobe Reader v6 installed

All running on Windows XP Home edition.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

I was able to resolve this problem with Solution 3 below for my Windows ME system.

DD - PComp513 - Could not find PDF-Exchange driver

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution:

Please Note: The following problems/solutions may require editing registry entries and the win.ini file. Please do not attempt to use these fixes unless you are both capable and comfortable with editing the win.ini and working with the registry. Making changes to these files can cause serious problems on a patron’s computer if not executed correctly.

Whenever you try to preview or publish in PAF Companion 5.1.3 an error message appears that says the program “Could not find PDF-Exchange Driver.” Three solutions appear below.

Solution 1—Uninstall/Re-install PAF Companion.

Solution 2—Download the most current Upgrade for Companion from the Internet, and install it.

Go to www.familysearch.org and download the latest PAF Companion Upgrade

Install the download overtop of your existing Companion program.

Solution 3—Add the necessary files manually.

For Windows 98B (or Second Edition)
(Note: This has only been tested with Windows 98B, but it may work for 95, 2000, NT, or ME.)

Click Start.
Select Programs, then click MS-DOS Prompt.
At the DOS prompt, type copy c:\windows\win.ini c:\windows\win.old to make a backup of your original win.ini file.
Type exit, then press Enter.
Click Start.
Select Programs, then click Windows Explorer.
Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Progeny\PDF_Exchange.
Select and copy all of the files in this folder.
Browse to the C:\Windows\System folder. If the PDF files you found and copied from the Common Files folder are not there, paste them into this directory.
Browse to the C:\Windows folder. Find and open the win.ini file.
Scroll down until you see the section titled [Devices].
Under [Devices] will be a list of installed printers. Look for the following line. If it is not there, or is not correct, please add or modify it to match.
PDF-XChange 2 DE=PDRV2_d,LPT1:

Under [PrinterPorts], look for the following line. If it is not there, or is not correct, please add or modify it to match.
PDF-XChange 2 DE=PDRV2_d,LPT1:,15,45
(Note: "15,45" number should be replaced with whatever number is assigned to the line end of the other printers.)

Restart the computer.
If this does not resolve the problem, verify that all the steps have been followed as indicated and that the lines added were entered exactly as they appeared in this document.

I went to reinstall the Charting Companion software but opted to do the repair option first. The repair option must have reinstalled the missing PDF driver.

I am also receiving an error when trying to print preview or simply print reports in PAF version 5.1.5. The family group sheets print fine. However, when printing a pedigree chart I get an error message stating "Unexpected error in pedigree chart while trying to open Temp file: 10-." Is anyone else having this problem?
