I haven't tried anything like this for many years, and all I recall about it is that I created a disaster in my database that I still see remnants of! Anyway:
I have a GEDCOM file from another researcher that has an important new connection to my own data and I'd like to integrate this new data. However, I only want a subset of the people in this database (maybe a few dozen out of over 500 in the file: our common ancestor is at the ggg-grandparent level or earlier and I just want my ancestry going back -- not all of his other lines of descent).
Anyway, what is a good procedure for doing this with TMG? My inclination would be to import this data as a new family file, then prune the unwanted branches and merge what's left into my main file. But it's so long since I've done anything really technical with TMG that I'm not sure exactly how this would be done, if it's even possible (e.g., can I delete an entire branch of a family tree at once vs. deleting one person at a time?).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
