The answer lies in the fact that altough you have only one spouse RECORDED does not mean that there was only ever one spouse. TMG makes NO assumptions.

Secondly when you add children to a marriage only the first one needs to be added to both parents. Add the others to a existing child as siblings IF BOTH parents are the same.
