Software for logging activity

I just resumed work on a large tree that has been inactive for10 years. Although I was fairly good at logging sources, I now realize I have no time frame on when people where added or when family interviews took place.. and that's sad.

I'm currently using FTM2014, that imported from a very old FTM version and I'm still learning how to use it, but it appears as I add sources, there is no "date stamp" that I added something on a certain date. I've added 30 people in the last week, but a year from now, I think I want to know that.

I also need to make generic notes, like I just added a new branch and am looking for more people in that area, or I interviewed someone and he/she gave me this data.

I could of course just use a spread sheet, but is there some software that handles this task?

Not up with FTM2014 but in earlier versions you can ADD a new fact. you can therefore add a fact for Date Added a & one for Date Edited. Each would just be an individual fact with a date field, (you get a place field which you just ignore if you wish). I have just cecked that this works. There may be a shortcut key to enter today's date, but I do not really use FTM.
