Ancestry.com is fine for puting data out on the web, but many people like the reports that desktop software has that online programs do not have. I use my desktop software to facilitate book creation, reunion charts, and I have privacy concerns regarding anyone born in the last 100 years. I only place some of my information on the web, not all. I also take my desktop software with me when I go out on research trips, both overseas and domestically. I can't always get a good internet connection deep in the archives buildings or when I can, 6 or 8 hours of continuous airtime can get expensive sometimes.
