I'm having trouble sorting my facts in chronological order. I'm afraid the problem I'm having is something inherent to the sorting system in the FTM 2012 software but am hoping someone here can help.
The problem is that the timeline sorts first chronologically by year and then alphabetically by fact name, so if I enter only years and no exact dates, the order gets all messed up.
For example, I entered the following facts into one person's bio. He lived at one address until 1927, started the school year at one school that year, then moved, and finished the school year (and the next two years) at a second school:
Bef. 1927 Address #1
1927 Education #1
1927 Address #2
Bet. 1927-1930 Education #2
But because of FTM's automatic sorting feature this is the order that it gets listed in:
Bef. 1927 Address #1
1927 Address #2
Bet. 1927-1930 Education #2
1927 Education #1
How is it that something that happens in 1927 isn't listed BEFORE something that happens Bet. 1927-1930??
I've seen other posts with people complaining about the same problem when it comes to burial and death dates. If you don't know the exact burial date and only enter the year, it will always be listed before the death on the timeline (Burial comes before Death alphabetically). I'd really prefer it if my timeline stopped assuming my relatives were buried alive!!
So, is there a way to manually override the order of the facts? If not, are there any tricks people have found to manipulate the order?
Or should I just live with it for now and hope that the next update takes this sorting problem into consideration?
