I use Family Tree Maker. The problem I have right now is with an ancestor who changed his surname when he was already widowed with children. That was (and still is) legal in the UK, even though he didn't go through any legal process -- he just dropped his old name and started using the new one. His new wife and the children they had together took his new surname; the children already born kept the old one. How do I handle this surname change in Family Tree Maker? That is, how do I start someone off as Fred Fanakapan and then show him as Fred Newname?
