>>When you say FTM Tree Wizard Merge, are you talking about the Web Merge Feature that you do in the Web Search Workspace? You went to the Web Search Workspace, either directly there or from a Shaking Leaf in the People Workspace. You did a Web Search, found a Record, then did a Web Merge.

Yes, you understand.

>>If that is what you did, and lets say you found a Census Record, by search on that individual, then later a search of the Head of household, then later a search for another member of that household, you might end up with multiple FACTs, like the Residence FACT, but during the Web Merge Process, you are asked a bunch of questions on what you want to include in the merge. Is that what you did?

Yes, you understand. And yes, I have done exactly what you suggested if a record was not applicable.

BUT here is what is happening to me.

I get very few "Primary Records", like census and vital records. Moreover, many of the primary records I do get seem to come though other folks' family trees and I don't even see them until I go into the tree. They don't pop up as separate ancestry hints. Primary records aren't creating the duplicates issue.

It is using the family trees of others that creates the duplicates. The data comes in all shapes and sizes. Facts like "Residence" often have several and never seem to line up so that you can eliminate duplicates. Also, I have afraid of losing Primary Facts by not accepting other's trees, when appropriate, of course.

With that, you can probably re-read my notes and they will make more sense now.

Thanks again,
Bud
