I want to be able enter cemetery names, church, hospital names, etc. Is it better to put it in 'places' so that it reads xxx cemetery, town, county, state or would it be better to enter it as a new fact so that it appears on a seperate line? is there any advantage to using one way over the other?

FTM 2008 and 2009 has an option to add an additional field to these types of facts called "Description." You can access this option by selecting "Edit / Manage Facts" then select the particular fact then select "Properities." There are options for "Date / Place"; "Date / Place / Description"; and "Description only".
