I would go to Version 16, as it will read your Family File from your previous version of Family Tree Maker. 2008 will as well, but I would suggest Version 16 and watch for improvements to 2008, as it was a complete re-write of the program and not all of the features from previous versions of there.

However, you mentioned that you lost all of your information, then going to 2008 may be a better option, if you have to start from scratch. Then you would be entering all of your data and Citation information using the new program.
