FTM 2014 & WINDOWS 10

Re: FTM 2014 & WINDOWS 10 FTM-2012??

I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 in the morning of 29 July 2015 and my FTM 2014 version 22.0.0.1345 is running. Visually, fonts are slightly different and several views no longer fit on the screen without scrolling or re-sizing panes but it seems to run OK.

Once you get Windows 10 installed, you need to re-start your machine - I don't think they tell you about it.

Got Win10 last night and ran FTM2014 today. Crashed at sync. Sync was rarely ever an issue for last couple years.

Quote: "According to Microsoft's Win 10 Compatibily site, FTM 2014 v22 is NOT compatible.
NOT"

I have only have FTM 2012, and have not questioned Ancestry about compatibilty.

However I question the results on the MS compatibility page
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatC...?

If you will scroll down the list of version that are and are not compatible, there are some glaring inconsistencies.

Why would Family Tree Maker Version 10 and Family Tree maker 2010 Platinum (Version 19) be compatible with W10 and Family Tree Maker 2010 Deluxe (Version 19) not be compatible?

It is my understanding for the last dozen years the FTM program is the same whether you buy the Platinum or Deluxe version. The differences being the additional packaged programs and the length of the Ancestry Subscription

keithnuttle,
FTM 2010 did not synchronize trees with ancestry.com.
FTM 2014 does synchronize. i suspect the compatibility problem has to do with the synchronization technique.

I have restarted, multiple times since the 'update'
FTM launches fine, but when trying to open a tree it crashes.
running 22.0.0.1345

I can live without it for now, but in about 3 weeks if it's not fixed I'll have to revert to Win 8.1 on this machine at least.

Unfortunately, my version of FTM 2014, v. 22.0.0.1345, did not work after upgrading to 64-bit Windows 10 Pro. I think this has happened to others in my situation, but hard to tell.

RichardNYC: My question "Why would Family Tree Maker Version 10 and Family Tree maker 2010 Platinum (Version 19) be compatible with W10 and Family Tree Maker 2010 Deluxe (Version 19) not be compatible?"

Was not a question about why Version 10 and Version 19 are compatible, BUT why the Platinum version 19 is compatible, and the Deluxe version 19 is not.

Just installed Windows 10 64-bit with FTM 64-bit. Broken. After a couple of tries opening the program, it comes up. When I open a tree, Bam. Crash.

FTM 2014. Upgraded to Windows 10 on day 1 of release and it consistently crashed on startup - whether it was trying to open an existing file or not.
Contacted Avenquest - whom I believe are the developers and from whom I bought FTM 2014 deluxe. Their statement was:
Thank you for contacting Avanquest UK customer service.
FTM 2014 Deluxe is NOT compatible with Windows 10.
To apply for a refund, please email us back with the following information:
• Your full name, address, email, phone number
• Your order ID
• Your reason for return

I did so and have received a refund (thanks!)

HOWEVER........ What I really wanted was a working FTM or a work around. This is going to cause users a huge headache unless there is a fix issued very quickly!

Looking around at recent posts, it seems that the x64 installation (like mine!) is the worst and that 32 bit users may have better luck. Also FTM 2012 is supposed to be compatible with Win10.

Any workarounds found by users? Please post!
