The easiest way to do a restore in my experience has been to do the restore using the default file names offered by FTM. It will set up a new media folder that will be empty if you have not included media files in the backup file. Then, rename the FTM file to the name you originally were using. FTM will automatically point to the correct media folder with all your media files, since it searches using the file name of your datafile with the word "media" appended. This approach allows you to backup the main file quite often and separately from backing up the media files, while quickly restoring to a prior point with a minimum of extra files. It's only downside is that you may have extra files in the media folder that no longer have a reference in the datafile. You may also need to move your original datafile to a backup location so the names do not conflict.
