The media tab for FTM 2014 is pretty helpful. You can view all the media in an icon list or select any one to view the details and an enlarged view. You can sort the icons by person or category to zero in on the one you want. You can also print scapbooks by person or family group. Unfortunately you cannot print a scrapbook by media category.
I have a lot of media, so I use media categories extensively. I keep historical maps, coats of arms, cemetery photos, family photos, etc. I wanted to print a scrapbook with one media per page for each of these categories. To do this I used the following kludge.
I set up a dummy person with a neuter gender and a last name Media, and a first name Category. I then attach all the media for a category to that dummy individual. This allows me to use the scrapbook features that are provided for individuals to print out comprehensive documentation of each media category. Unlike, the "Publish" "Media" reports, the individual scapbook allows you to select the number of media per page so you can have just one or you can have a page full of icons.
The main inconvenience of this approach is updating the list. When you accidentally select duplicate media to add, FTM dutifully shows you for each duplicate a message that it already exists. This dialog requires you to click "OK" before it proceeds to the next duplicate: 376 times!
