Once I got the email from them (I had to call tech support), the download went smoothly. The install was quick. I has to enter the authorization code by hand. All Caps. Cut & Paste of the code was disabled.
The new version works with no significant problems. Sync works.
I really like the new family view (it already existed at ancestry.com).
If the font is too small for you, click the family view pane and turn the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom out.
The new 64 bit version does not start up faster than the 32 bit ftm 2012 on my system. It takes about 10 - 12 seconds to start up. Maybe, it runs a little faster once open. Maybe. Sync seems smooth and slightly faster than ftm2012.
I have a fairly fast PC.
Windows 7 64 bit, 16 GB memory, 500 GB ssd C drive, 50 mbs internet download.
I have IE 10 installed, but use the latest Chrome as my default browser.
There are about 1200 people in my tree. The tree size is about 17 GB. Lots of images.
Suggestion to people who are having problems:
Tell us your PC configuration and family tree size to help assess what is going on.
Tell us if you have done a "file compact" on your tree recently. There may be errors in your tree database that are showing up now. Remember, close your file before doing the file compact since errors don't seem to be corrected if the file is open.
Be specific about the problem you are having. Constant crashes? Sync problems? Garbled facts or people?
Have you found bugs? Tell us specifically what they are and how important they are to you.
I did find one minor bug in "Places", sort by Person. The map location markers do not appear if the Person has an "Also Known As" fact. I think this is a minor nuisance since I have a work-around and also since it showed up, in a much uglier fashion, in FTM 2012.
