Somehow quite a while back I saved my trees on my computer and made a couple of copies in case something happened. Well, I started working with one and added a ton more stuff and then one day I accidently I opened the other one and added again a lot of stuff. Now without retyping all that work on the one or the other. How can I combine them so they mesh together? I hate to lose all that work. Any suggestions?

You can use the Merge function. Notice the toolbar icon that looks like a merge road sign?
It's going to be a lot of work, but you'll wind up wit just one tree.
Do NOT use automatic merge as that might merge two different people and miss others that are.

I am not sure I understand. Why wouldn't I want to auto merge? I wanted one tree to look over the other tree and fill in any holes. I made the trees with the 2006 software program and now I bought the 2008 software and want to put it all together on that. Do you mean I would have to go through each individual and merge each entry?

If you bought a 2008 version, you're in the wrong place. AFT is free and there's no 2008 version.
However, the reason you never want to do an automatic merge is that you have no control over what's merged. It might replace a good date with just a year for instance. It also will miss people who should be merged.

Well, a year later and I hope everyone has worked this out. Please tell me what 'toolbar' you're referring to. I can find no such animal. I have two trees here and would love to combine them. Home person is the same. Possible? Thanks
