Am in the process of purchasing one of the above, can anyone give me advice as to which is best for using with Family Tree.
I have Family Tree on my PC and a synced tree on Ancestry, which would be best for taking with me when I visit Record Offices, etc?
Thanks

Hi,
Do you run your Family Tree software on the iPad or link throught to Ancestry, if you make amendments to Ancestry, how do you update the Family Tree software?
Thanks
|
I just use the site through iPad and not Family Tree. I adore the iPad. Would highly recommend it. I do not yet use the app for Ancestry.

Its hard to say. The iPad is brilliant, but may be more limited than a laptop for certain uses, such as complex spreadsheets.
I have an iPad with Ancestry's iPad version of my tree on it. ?I also have the Gedview app on the Ipad. ?The latter seems easier to use and edit "on the hoof".
I like the iPad for its long battery life and great portability when compared with a laptop. ?However, remember you will need to email your self reports pics etc, or sync the Ipad with your home based computer to get info in / out of the Ipad.
Sent from my iPad.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, do you sync your Ancestry tree with the Family Tree software at all, I'm not sure if I use the Ipad to input data onto Ancestry if I can then update my tree on the PC which runs Family Tree?
Thanks again

I prefer to use the Ancestry tree as a reference document on the iPad. I haven't tried syncing trees. I prefer to take notes in the Genview app, and to copy and paste new data into the tree on my PC.

I have the same questions as you, can I ask what you chose in the end?
|
I did buy an iPad, but have decied to use my laptop for Ancestry, I just find it easier and quicker when updating info, ie. typing it into the system. How are you getting on?

Hi there,
I use both the laptop and the ipad for information. On the ipad it will sync with ancestry.com, then from ancestry.com on the laptop I then export to my family tree maker program. Hope that this will answer your question.
