Surnames: Smith, Carter, or Hatcher
I am helping my friend , Vera Smith Reynolds, look for information on her relatives who were slaves on both the Hatcher and Carter Plantations in Ararat, Va. They went by the names of Hatcher, Smith, and Carter. I am looking for anything, but especially information on George Etta Carter and Leah Adeline Carter, whose Mother may have been Harriett Dunkley. Very little known of Harriet Dunkley (b. about _1800) except she was the mother of Leah Adeline Carter( b.Sept 1849-d.Sept.1937.) Leah Adeline was the mother of George Etta Carter, b. April 1882- d. Nov. 1956. If you have any information on these people or these Plantations, or can tell us the best way to find information, we would appreciate your help.
Thanks, Glenda Robbins
