Looking for any information on the sinking of the Daniel Chester French and McDowell during WWII. McDowell was sunk Dec 16, 1943 off of Trinidad.

Doing a web search for the Daniel Chester French brought me to a list of Liberty Ships:

http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/LibShipsD.html

This was listed as part of her history: "6.3.44 Mined and sunk off Bizerta at 37.17N 10.22W"

For the SS McDonnell, I found the following American Merchant Ship list (and an image):

There is also a dedication page for one of the lost crew at:

Thank you so much for the information. My grandfather was aboard the Daniel Chester French when it was mined and escaped without harm, thankfully. He is dying of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and we are trying to put together a "family history" to give to him. I appreciate the information and jotted a note to the man who put together the memorial page.
