One of my 12th g-grandmothers was Susanna Hayward, nee Towne.
She was born in Norfolk England and immigrated with her parents and
siblings to Massachusetts. The family settled in the area around
Salem MA. Susanna died in 1678 at the age of 53.
Three of her sisters were tried during the Salem Witch trials
in 1692. Rebecca Nurse / Nourse and Mary Easty, my 12th great-grand
aunts were both found guilty and were both hanged. Their sister Sarah
Cloyce was accused and tried but not executed.
Rebecca was one of the oldest women tried and hung, at age 71. There
is a monument erected at her gravesite on the Nurse Homestead.
It is most likely if Susanna had still been alive in 1692 she would have been tried and hung along with her sisters. She would have been 67 that year, just about my age. I have no direct information from family sources concerning this, only what I've found here on Ancestry.com.
