The US Supreme Court ruled that witchcraft & satanism are both legally definable as religions.Having survived a witch trial of my own, I can safely say it has affected modern society more than religion in general. Many religions don't like dancing, rock music,or witches. In South Africa it is a capital crime to be a witch. In New York witchcraft can be prosecuted as a crime. In Ohio witchcraft is a misdemeanor, while in Pennsylvania it is a felony under some circumstances. In California it is a public nuisance,& satanism is recognized more than witchcraft. When I experienced my witch trial, relatives had reported to the authorities I was practicing magic. My books were seized,my papers were confiscated,my candles, herbs, statues, everything were taken. I was prosecuted for practicing magic,my curio business was in shambles,I was prohibited by court order from practicing witchcraft,& my relatives harassed me about becoming saved for many long years. The catholic church reprimanded me for being known publicly as a practicing witch,in my case, warlock. My abilities & knowledge were questioned in open court,& I was commanded by the court to deny there were such things as witches,& that magic is evil. I hope this helps with your studies.Personally,I think witches should be allowed to practice their craft,so long as they do no adverse harm to anyone. As they say - so long as ye harm none,do what thou wilt.
