This may not be the case with your GEDCOM, but I do know that there are at least some people who go to the trouble of copying information manually. I have always set my WorldConnect file not to allow downloads, preferring that people contact me directly. A very distant cousin of mine, for reasons unknown to me, has evidently decided that she would rather copy the data in my file line by line instead of writing to me and asking for a GEDCOM. It seems like an awful lot of work, but she keeps doing it. I know that it is being copied because she gets the basic information (names, places, dates, and even occupations) but omits all the diacritical marks (much of my information being in French or German). As I add new information about people connected to her it eventually shows up in her file. Not something over which I have any control and I don't worry about it.
