T42 Website Adverts And Tens Of Thousands Of Threads

Can something be done to address the tens of thousands of threads created by the name user accounts of t42? This single user through the scores of user accounts containing "t42" is using the Ancestry.com community message boards as a platform to advertise the front page of a grave inscription website.

The tens of thousands of thread creations for this single website address http://teafor2.com is diluting the use of Ancestry.com community message boards to the extent that some boards such as BROWN are quite unusable now since they are mostly filled with threads containing nothing more than the website address http://teafor2.com.

I hope this can be address by redirecting this one user to create their threads in an appropriate board so that the other boards can continue to function as an exchange by the thousands of other users.

Currently some boards (such as BROWN surname) and not useable as an exchange by the thousands of users since they are now dominated by threads created by the user "t42".

Hope this can be addressed.

Only board staff can change their determination that the t42 posts should remain on the message boards. You can reach them via email at messageboards@rootsweb.com.

I can't imagine why ANYONE would object to the data being posted by those valuable T42 volunteers with links to their FREE Web site. They provide a VALUABLE service with tons of data that board users can search...primarily concerning cemetery and military data.

If you don't want to read or search this data then don't, but please don't object to data the vast majority of our users WANT to have available.

This issue (or really NON-issue) has been addressed to staff before by a few other misguided users who seem to think a pay site is involved...it is NOT. Staff has ruled on this in the past and NO BOARD RULES are being VIOLATED in the wonderful T42 volunteer posts on our boards.

Joan,
I and MANY other users object to these thousands and thousands of t42 posts hijacking certain boards. For example - the BROWN family surname board is now almost entirely filled with threads created which provide nothing more than the front page link to the website teafor2.com - which anyone who uses ancestry.com boards, now knows their website address. We don;t need 200,000 threads created for this right?

Their contribution is great. Just wish they would put their thread creations in a single board so they would not fill up other boards. They number more than 200,000 - more than any other board!

How can a message link from T42 telling of specific burials be taken as and advert or hijacking. Way back they would post the actual info. and that was taken from us and they then were only allowed to post a link. I certainly hope that this is not taken from us.

It would be GREAT if the thousands of new threads created in the surname boards were done so in a more applicable board like burials, tombstones, grave inscriptions or some other board better organized to accept the bulk of these posts. Currently, these t42 posts DOMINATE some boards such as the Brown Surname board to such an extent that they drown out any other posts from other users. Effectively rendering the Brown Surname board less useful to someone looking to engage with the community, following or otherwise monitoring the Brown Surname board.

I hope someday boards like the Brown Surname can be returned to the Brown Surname community. Currently, boards such as the Brown Surname belong to the t42 poster.

"I hope someday boards like the Brown Surname can be returned to the Brown Surname community."

Then don't contribute to the "problem" by posting replies to multiple t42 posts, which only served to put those posts back at the top of the board and hide the other genealogy queries.

Jason: I admin the surnames MILLER, MYERS and DUNN among other common surnames. I get the T42 volunteer posts on a daily basis and those who follow the boards I admin appreciate the efforts these volunteers make very much. I can't fathom why anyone would want to stifle the posting of DATA. As far as most of us are concerned (and feel I can speak for others in this case because we have discussed it) data is more important on our boards than queries which are often not asked in a way that anyone can respond or help...data ALWAYS adds something that can be helpful to others in the future. I've never found ANY T42 post on my boards to be anything other than relevant DATA. Can't imagine why you would be interested in genealogy and NOT want the flow of data on the boards. It's unthinkable.
