I have gotten hundreds of emails at home about the postings here on the SPAMMERS. I have 3 boards and they have never been spammed. I don't even get posts (so sad.) Are these SPAMMERS targeting specific categories of boards? I've seen the spams on other boards I've read, but for some reason, I've been left alone.
Q: What is an example of this particual SPAMMER that keeps changing their member name? I'm just curious...
It would take an enormous amount of time to manually SPAM so many boards, so obviously a 3rd party software is involved.
SUGGESTION? The Ancestry webmaster should add a CAPTCHA requirement to all inter communication features at this site (private inboxes, message boards and posted/replied to thread posts, etc.) That would prevent SPAMMERS using 3rd party software to post SPAM messages. It won't prevent manual postings, but I'm sure the CAPTCHA would get annoying to the SPAMMER after a while...
SUGGESTION? When a SPAMMER or violator of Ancestry Terms of Use is caught and their account is deleted, Ancestry should be able to block access from that computer's IP address to prevent them from re-registering under a new username. That won't prevent them from registering from a computer with a different IP address, but it would cut down on the repeat offenders.
I'd love to hear if it's worth it for me to send these suggestions to Ancestry Feedback. And by all means, please be honest. Thanks!
