My husband of 44 years is a von der Heyde. He was born in Allenau, East Prussia during WWII(1942). It is now part of Russia. Records are very difficult to get. My mother-in-law divorced my husbands father and came to the U.S. in 1953 with my husband and his older brother. My husbands father was about 20 years older than his mother. We have two sons, a grandson and a niece that carry on the von der Heyde line. I am trying to find information on the von der Heyde line. My father-in-law was Carl Freidrich Wilhelm von der Heyde, born 16 December 1900 in Stade, Germany, I only have the name of one sibling, a girl named Else, their father was Carl Ludwig von der Heyde, born 31 May 1878 in Campe Stade, Germany. You mentioned something about a "Family Tree" book. I would greatly appreciate if you could check out this information for me.
My husbands brother visited his father in Germany in the 1960s and told us of a book his father showed him which traced the family back to the 14 or 15 hundreds. I am in hopes that maybe this is the information you have.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Looking for possible Von Papen relatives

This may not connect but, I am working on a friend's family tree and the name is Papen of NYC. The family story is that the grandfather's name was Stephen Eli Von Papen.
1920 & 1930 NYC census indicates that he was from Austria (1920) or Slovakia (1930). The family is listed under Jane Pappen and Jennie Papin but he himself is not on listed the census (although Jennie is listed as married, not widowed).
I can find no immigration records or census for a Stephen Von Papen to confirm the family name.
Thought I might at least put this out there.
Best of luck.

Re: Georg Von Thelen

Re: "Meine 32 Ahnen" by Prochazka.

Chris,

Some years ago I had contacted a relative of yours in Vienna seeking some info on the v. Thelen lineage and mentioned the book. The book has approximately 5 pages of genealogy which supposedly links the v. Thelens of Westphalia to the ones of Oberfranken. Martin had some doubts about the link. There is a later book by Erik v. Glass (don't have the title handy) which does much the same but claims the v. Thelens of Oberfranken stem from the old Saxon family v. Theler, not v. Dolein. My interest is and was some v. Thelens appeared in the Niederrhein around 1618 and there are records to at least 1700 of them around Cologne. I was curious if they were related. I now think this could only be resolved by a search of the records in Düsseldorf.

There is a reference to Prochazka on the site WW-Person of Herbert Stoyan:

http://www8.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/cgi-bin/stoyan/l3/LAN...

As to the Rhenish v. Thelens there is an interesting post
at:

http://www.familienverband-thk.de/forum.html

by a Lionel Thelen mentioning this. If there were a link between the Oberfranken and other v. Thelens the only one I can think of is the book mentioned a v. Thelen goin West to the Hague. Interesting, there is a Hague West of the Rheinland but very close I think in either Belgium or the Netherlands. This could explain the appearance of v. Thelens in Mönchengladbach around 1618 (the book, I think, mentioned one going West around 1608).

Martin Berthold Thelen in Vienna could probably provide more information about the Prochazka book.

I was tracing an obscure line of my heritage in Denmark when I came across the name Kofoed on two separate occasions. Both of those Kofoed's eventually meet back up at a Hans Madsen Kofoed (who was apparently born before his alleged father; so i stopped the Kofoed line there) who was married to a NN Claussdatter Von Këollr(or which ever version of the above you prefer) from there we suddenly get a shift from Danish places of birth to Prussian and German ones. Claussdatter's father being Claus Von Këollr, a few more generations later we get Von Lepel then Von Worms, Von Bergin, Von Bernstoff, Von Scherff, Von Zozenow etc.

I want to know if anyone knows about this line? If it's actually legit or if someone was overreaching a bit, and if there is any actual history about any of these folks..

I know my gr gr grandfather was a first cousin of the Kaiser and was sent to America by his family to protect him from something. We did have a coat of arms but the only thing that remains of that is a very tattered old picture. Don't know where he settled originally but my great grandfather was born in Kansas. His name was Harry D. Rimer and the name may have been change from Wiemer on Von Wiemer.

This is the internet address where Marie Miesen, the daughter of Barbra Palm is buried. She had 15 children, 13 who lived to adulthood. Little Johnny died as an infant. Marion stumbled backward into a big kettle of boiling waterthat was being used to wash clothes. She took several days to die. About the same period of time grandma's favorite sister, Marie, died of appendicitis. Marie was just a year or so younger than grandma, Martha, and she took it kind of hard all the rest of her life. Myrtle died just a few years ago of cancer.

Hello;
My name is David Farlow and Barbra Palm is also my gr,gr grandmother. My grandmother was Martha Rowe. She was Marie's second child. I believe Marie was Barbra's youngest daughter. I got to spend a lot of time talking to grandma about her family as she lived to the age of 104 and was sharp all the way to the end. She died early in 1998.
Joe and Barbra Miesen lived somewhere near the Bear Valley area in southern Minnesota where my Grandmother, Martha, was born Sep 9 1893. When Heinrich Willers and Marie moved to a farm near Turtle Lake Wisconsin, Joeseph and Marie moved to a farm about a mile away from them. It was about 1/4 mile south of the very East end of Moon Lake. All that was visable the last time I saw it, which was about thirty years ago, was a depression where the basement was. Joe Miesen was not, apparently, from what grandma said, an overly ambitious sort of guy. She more or less implied that her grandma, Barbra, was the little engine that could. She told of going cross country, there weren't any roads, only logging trails, to her grandmas with her older brother Otto and how her grandma gave them each a huge carrot to eat on the way home. Barbra also nursed people who were deadly ill, as did my gr grandmother Marie and my grandma Martha before she got married. She said that her grandmother had a large root cellar and also kept celery over winter among all the other stuff. She said old Doc Tanner would stop by pretty regular during the winter to discuss someone who needed help and sooner or later he would say, "Mrs. Miesen, could you spare a stalk or two of celery?" It was an uncommon vegetable at the time, and certainly in the winter time. Grandma said that her grandmother never wanted to leave KinderBeurern/Bausendorf. She said that Barbra's uncle was the BurgherMeister and her family owned the village's big brick oven. Joe was a natural drifter and came over a year before he sent for Barbra and the kids. He had been in one of the wars with France, where apparently he did well. Iv'e noticed from the guys I've known that a lot of guys who can adapt well to a choatic situation like combat don't do well in the more rigid structure of "civilized" life. He was kind of an autocrat and wouldn't let Barbra and the kids speak French. Goose gabble he called it and said that the French would have won the war if they hadn't spent so much time partying etc.
They didn't make a go of it with the farm and moved to Shakopee. I don't know if this was before the big forest fire of 1898 went through the area or after. Joe got a job as a mailman and thrived on a route where he could gossip a little at many stops. He liked lightning storms and grandma said he died watching one at the screendoor of there house in Shakopee. Grandma said that her grandma had a "good voice" but I never realized that it was so exceptional.
Grandma went to stay with her aunt Kate (Barston) near Elbow Canada about 1910 for a while. She considered her to be a very competent woman but didn't think much of Barston who I believe Katie eventualy divorced.
She wrote all her life to some of her Poncelet cousins in southern Min. I think Margret married one of Adam Poncelets three sons. They all had big families and I believe a lot of them still live in the Goodhue area.
She never told me much about her aunt Lena but she remembered young Joe Miesen as a real good looking guy who married a school teacher and then got a divorce and ended up out in the state of Washington with another wife and family. Doesn't seem to have been too much of a ball of fire. I've got some info and pictures that Kathy Walters, one of Marie's other daughters, daughter, sent me. I'll try to find it and send you copies of it sometime. If you Google, KinderBeurern Palm or Kinderbeurern Miesen you will see that there are still Miesens and Palms living there.
Hope you find some of this interesting and useful.
David Farlow
722 Market St.
Eau Claire, Wi. 54703
715-832-2408
davefarlow@att.net
GHdA? von Wittlinsbach

Can someone who has access to a GHdA please check the name "von Wittlinsbach" for me? I just received a birth record for a 5xgreat-grandmother who father's name was Anton von Wittlinsbach, Statthalter of Dill (now in Rhein-Hunsrück) from 1736-1776. The record had the word "praenoblis" (of ancient nobility) before the names. I would like to find where Anton was born but this document and those of siblings give no indication where the family originated.

It has been tredition in our thread of the family to call the first born child's middle name's Heinrich Sigismund, so, my brother is hence Maximillion Heinrich Sigismund von der Heyde. so the man in question "Heinrich Sigismund von der Heyde" must have some improtance. I shall have to ask my opa if i can have a look at the amily tree (it may take some time, because it goes back to 13 something apparently) but i will have a look, and there will be the most likely place i find Heinrich Sigismund von der Heyde's parents, and well, entire Family

Many thanks,

Hannah von der Heyde

Re: Lost Estates

Cathy, I'm going to be referring to the edits you made at http://www.birchy.com/GenWiki/index.php?title=Community_of_F..., as well...

Freihof/Niewolno was an estate and it's village on the road just north of Tresmessen/Trzemeszno, Kreis Mogilno.

This is the first instance that I've heard, of someone's name changing like that (specifically). My best guess is that the Freihof "germanization" occurred in the latter rounds, in the late 1800s, and that the original Polish name was used except for say around 1880 to 1919. Your ancestor's family probably got their name from the estate, not the other way around.

Hutta tresmessen, btw, was 1.5 mi NW of Freihof. I will add a map to the above article after I post this reply.

As for Jews in Freihof, these would have been in Tresmessen proper in 1905, but there was probably less than a quarter mile between the two places.

As for losing an estate, when it happened would be helpful for guessing a reason. Throughout all time, estates were bought and sold, inherited and leased. Bad luck and poor management threatened every estate. But there were also efforts to convert Polish estates to German ownership. The Reich set up a commission to snap up Polish estates and resell them to Germans, and legal and social pressure was applied. Poles created financial and social associations to combat this and other anti-Polish measures.
Of course, after WWI, it was very difficult for Germans to keep their property.

Assuming your ancestors were German and Protestant, Tresmessen had a Protestant church from 1845, when it split off from the one in Witkowo, some 10 miles to the SSW. Witkowo existed from at least 1790. Gnesen to the west (about 10 mi. also) existed from at least 1804.

James Birkholz
(admin Posen mailing list and website)

Check out the names of the children in the Hauck line, look at the names of Mortiz' children and Johann Friedrich Michael Hauck's children, then look at the names of Nicholas' children, coincidence or family tradition, or in honor of, or common German/Catholic names?

Val, my grandfather, Leo Hauck, which I beleive is your grandmother's brother was also a free bleeder, not severe, but he was.

Physical description of Leo was tall, like 6-2, 6-4 (big man) lumberjack type, reddish/blonde hair, blue eyes, kind disposition, also had a heart problem, which he died young from.

Gramma Hauck, Leo's wife, my grandmother, is the one that told me when I was 13 year's old that we were related to royalty, she told me the entire Julia story, she told me "Hans" I remember that name, she told me about a crest, she told me about dropping the "von" on the name, she told me about the name change, I recall the name change, as I recall it, she said originally it was "Haucken" or something phonetically close.

I remember looking up some geneology and finding an Augustus Haucken (Hollandaise records) from the 1660's or thereabouts that tied in with Hans Mortiz line.

We just need to connect Joseph from Germany to tie in our line, those baptismal records would do the trick. P.S. I can not get a hold of the church by phone to order :)

Also, my grandmother told me about a book "The Hauck Family of Wexlar" by an historian, Adalbart (or with an "e") Brauer, Bauer...I think this book does exist, but I can't find it because I can't read/write German (travesty huh?).

She said our line is in that book and shows the links.
My brother Robert Jr. also has a blood disorder that his Dr. has said is rare, but no elaboration there. I don't know what it is. Just some more info. to pass around as the "stories" go. I have a hard time believing my grandmother was making them up, she had too many particular details.

Being a women (even though my Dad would be a direct male descendent to this Hauck line)I don't know if DNA would do the trick? Does anybody know this? Oh, P.S. Uncle Rich, my Dad's brother, Leo's son, was also color blind.

Thanks! Lea Ann M. Hauck
Just putting out some information and hoping that some day
someone may come across the answer to my possible relationship to the Kaiser. It was told to me by a
relative that our Grub family came from Mommenheim, and
that in 1866 his grandfather came to the U.S. as a Von
Grub. He dropped the "Von" at the time of WWI because he
was a cousin to the Kaiser. It was suggested that the
original name might have been Grubben or Grubbenhaugen.
His mother's maiden name was Ebling - so maybe the relationship came from that side of the family. And it was not said what "cousin" this was - cousin can mean so
many things other than "first cousin". I do not expect
the answer to just pop up - this will probably take much
research - but just thought I'd put it out there, just
in case someone holds a clue, etc. Thanks, Ms. Group
(As you can see the Grub name then later evolved into Group)

sounds like vonBronkufsku?

I'm posting this to several boards hoping to find a lead. We have no record of my great-great grandmother's maiden name, only what my mother and grandfather remembered it sounded like - von Bronkufsku, which could be a very butchered version, but I'm hoping someone can help.

I know there is debate whether the "von" means from a specific town or area or has to do with royalty. Does it sound at all familiar? Even a slight similarity to a name you're familiar with?

Little background - Anna von Bronkufsku was born around 1864 in Germany according to the 1920 and 30 censuses and arrived in NY around 1885. She married Bernhardt Seidel, unclear whether this was in Europe or America; his arrival date is a few years earlier. Anna died in 1934 in Brooklyn, as evidenced by the NY Death index.

Any inkling would be great!

Martini Family & Leiningen-Westerburg Family of Schadeck Castle

I am attempting to establish the identity of Magdalena, wife of Johann Andreas Martini of Schadeck Castle in Grafschaft Westerburg. She married him there on 5 Aug 1651, bore three sons, and was buried there on 31 Mar 1658.

Her first son Georg Wilhelm Martini was christened there 9 Jan 1653, with his godmother being Juliana Walpurgis, Fraulein zu Leiningen-Westerburg [daughter of Christoph (1575-1635), Graf zu Leiningen-Westerburg, by his wife Philippina Catharina Walpurgis (d.1647) zu Wied und Runkel].

Her second son Simon Philipp Martini was christened there 5 Nov 1654, and his godparents included: (1) Sophia Elisabetha (1626-1688) zu Lippe, Graefin zu Leiningen-Westerburg [wife of Georg Wilhelm (1619-1695), Graf zu Leiningen-Westerburg], (2) Simon Philipp (1646-1670) zu Leiningen-Westerburg [eldest son of Georg Wilhelm (1619-1695)], (3) Johannes Valentin Holweg, praeceptor aulicus, and (4) Anna Christina, wife of Samuel Schlosser, chaplain of Schadeck. Simon Philipp Martini married Elisabetha Catharina Ackermann (1657-1728) on 24 Jan 1682 at Schadeck, and was buried there 11 Feb 1729.

My question is~
Given the godparents of Magdalena's children, was she the same Magdalena who was born 21 Sep 1613 at Schaumburg in Grafschaft Schaumburg to Christoph zu Leiningen-Westerburg by his wife Philippina Catharina Walpurgis zu Wied und Runkel? This placement would make her the sister of Juliana Walpurgis mentioned above, the sister-in-law of Sophia Elisabetha mentioned above, and the aunt of Simon Philipp zu Leiningen-Westerburg.

My descent from Simon Philipp Martini is through his daughter Anna Juliana [fourth of nine children] who was christened at Schadeck 21 May 1689. She married her first husband Johann Adam Schreiber there on 25 Nov 1707, and her second Johann Ludwig Schmidt 2 Sep 1710 also there. She was buried at Schadeck 9 Jun 1740.

Any assistance is appreciated.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but Lavina Brandenburg's grandchild, James B Grable (b 1856, Missouri, USA) married Lavina Kinder (b. 1858, Missouri, USA), who were rumored to be 1st cousins. They had six children; two of those children had cleft palates and one of their children without a cleft went on to have a child with this recessive genetic disorder. Let me know if this is the gene to which you are referring.

J.
german nobility and status

my mother's family went by the name of harz/hartz/von hartz in the united states, and i have verified that it was von hartz in germany. There is family history of nobility or royalty in the family. The family links have stalled with a man named levin von hartz who is described as a "Kuster Harm". He had a son named levin christian von hartz in 1721. The family is in the winzlar, dudensen, brokeloh area and i am trying to track down anyone with any ideas or insights or by sheer luck a family connection. thanks

As you are probably aware many tales are passed down in families that one family member was related to different royal linage including that of the past german royals.

Yours may be, but it is almost impossible to confirm as that family rightfully so holds tight information of their linage and who may have been part of nobility within their lines, to avoid outside claims.

There is one specific way of confirming if one may possibly be of the same gentic blood line. For further information on what has been spoken about write to the House of Frederic at
house_of _Frederic@yahoo.com

We wish you good luck on your quest.

Re: searching for the "French Duke" in our German family history...please help

A family historian some 60 years ago or so,recorded some names and dates which has lent more clues and naturally Even more questions...Such as-why would'nt this information be passed on down thru the generations- was it purposefully hidden, etc. It seems to indicate a paternal GGGM was a Theres Korner geb. de Fabreuer who sought emmigration with her brother and father after fleeing from the French guillotine...Her mother was Therese de Fabreauer-Willert "a Grafin Schulenburg von Hohensee" born 1810 in Dargun, Mecklinberg. She apparently was an orphan taken in by an Inspector Willert of the Mark Brandenburg.
This was all recorded under the tile of "Erbbegrafin Korner Ruh, Wolgast". Wolgast is apparently where my ancestor Johann Adolf Korner, practiced medicine and is just north of my family's homestead of Agneshof. He was born in Barrendorf by Zerbst, also by Langen, Magdeburg. Their children were 1.) Marie m. Burkard Wibelitz von Schucker Hohenzollern, 2.)Hans Korner, Keil Garden, 3.) Margarete Korner, born Aug. 5, 1828 in Agneshof, m. Post- Adam Konig 4.) Agnes Korner m. Johannes Rausch, Tempelhof 5.) Emil Korner b.Dec 6, 1832,Friedenau 6.) Adolf Korner, Friedland 7.)Paul Korner 8.)Albert Korner a.d. Nicholsdorf, Spandau, 9.)Helene Korner m.Fritz Kruezien,Berl/Tempelhof,Kaiserin's Augusta.
Will be on the lookout for your family names and do appreciate the tip re the French website.
Do you know the name of this french Duke? There is in France a national center for genealogy, but I can't find the web address. You might google french genealogical records. While doing research on the Hilperts,my dad's family,I discovered that near Hilbesheim ,Alsace is a ruin known as Kaschelschloss. It was once the home of a Comte Hilpert,or Count Hilpert. This too is a msytery,as a cousin of ours founded the firm of August and Jean Hilpert in Nuremberg which is still in business.Jean is not a german name.Like you I am curious about the French Connection in our family. If I learn something more will let you know.Relatives in Nuremberg keep the Hilpert family book, but I don't know how far back the family goes.

Here is what I know: My family line comes from Mathieu Baudouin's brother Nicholas Baudouin. You might remember that Mathieu's daughter Marie & her husband Alexandre desnier were the G G Grand parents of Sophie Dorothea who was the wife of King George I. Well many of the Hohenzollern family are related to these families. Ksr Wilhelm II is also a family member of this line of Baudouin. if you want you can contact me at: sueannbee@aol.com
