Hello there

Can anyone help me with information regarding the de Picquigny family from the town of Picquigny France. Some of them had the title Vidame d'Amiens and they appear to have been a family of some status in the area.

I also have information that relates to some members of the family apparently going to England around 1066 where they appear later in the Domesday book, but I cannot make a connection between the two groups despite the same name.
Any information would be gratefully recieved,
ksb

The community of Picquigny, on the Somme river, is located just west of Amiens (the principal city in the Picardie region) in the present-day department of the Somme in northern France.

For an explanation of the meaning of "vidame", and a brief history of the families that held the title "vidame d'Amiens", see "The Title of Vidame" at http://www.heraldica.org/topics/france/vidame.htm

For what it's worth, the family of Picquigny has been extinct since the mid to late 1300s. The title continued, however, to be held by female-line descendants of the Picquigny family (e.g.: Marguerite, who married into the d'Ailly family, then this family became extinct in its turn, and its heiress married into the d'Albret family, etc...).

By doing a search for "vidame d'amiens" using the Yahoo! search engine (http://search.yahoo.com), you'll find other worthwhile sites. Some sites are in French (others are in English), and many have genealogical information. As as start, here are two sites:

"Maison d'Albert" at http://www.heraldique-europeenne.org/Regions/France/Albert.h...

"Informations généalogiques" at http://genealogie.bocquet.free.fr/dat3.htm

The Dukes of Chaulnes et Picquigny- d'Albert de Luynes family

The title of “duc de Chaulnes et Picquigny” became extinct in 1793. The family of Albert de Luynes has revived the title by “propio motu” which is Latin for “of his own accord.” The reason the title was taken up was due to the marriage between Honore d'Albert, 1581-1649, and Claire-Charlotte d'Ailly Comtesse de Chaulnes, Dame de Picquigny, Vidame d'Amiens, heiress of the title of “duc de Chaulnes et Picquigny. According to F. de Saint Simon’s Dictionnaire de La Noblesse Française, the title of duc de Chaulnes et Picquigny is a title irregularly revived (irreguliers relevé). The current holder of the title is Philippe d’Albert, 13th duc de Luynes. He came to the title upon the death of his father in 2008. He is the son of Jean d'Albert, 12th duc de Luynes (1945-2008) and Christine (née Roussel) de Luynes. His uncle is Thierry Roussel, the father of Athina Onassis Miranda, one of the richest women in the world.
