My grandmother immigrated to Canada during WW2, and brought with her some of her family's items from Budapest. I'm told that her family held some importance there, and most of her items have crowns on them, as well as the family name. Because I cannot read Hungarian it's difficult for me to figure it all out, but I've been trying for some time.
Her maiden name was Kover,if anyone knows more about this name, or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate the help! thank you

As you see the word köváér, it means fat. BUT! The original Kövér was Kuer, and it meant wolf-grey, wolf-blue, or blue-grey. The clan Kuer is very ancient: by the sources they lived here since about 1300 years (the first Hungarians, the Seclers came to the Basin of Karpat in the end of the 600's). By this was born the correct theory about the double Conquest. On the other side it is impossible to know presently, the names Kövér are only Magyarized or changed names... I do not know any of original Küers, but it is living one man, named Nehéz-Poson István, who is really an ancient Secler family-member.

My name is Cláudia Köver. My family is from Hamburg (the german part of the family, from which I get this name). We found a painting of Budapest among old family things and also know that the name is originally hungarian. There is no memory - from the side of my grandmother - of the family ever mentioning having left Hungary. I know we must have lost our "é" at some point.
