We are holding a family reunion for Struble/Gill/VanEpps/Knapp Aug 2-4, 2013. In Traverse City Michigan. Friday will be a meet and greet, Saturday actual reunion and Sunday a farewell get together. "Howards of Lynden"

To all descendants of Barnabas Howard (1791-1835) and his wife Margaret Victoria Moore Howard (1793-1878):

Through many internet and email connections over the past few years, several branches of the families descended from Barnabas Howard (1791-1835), a founding member of Lynden, Ontario, have discovered their common interest in knowing more about our remarkable ancestor, his origins and his descendants.

We now have plans to meet for a get together at Lynden United Church on Friday, August 20, 2010. This gathering, across the street from the historic cemetery which Barnabas Howard initiated the year prior to his death, will give us a chance to meet each other, share some photos, history and recollections.

We hope this reunion will be of interest to all with a family connection, and to all in the community with an interest in the history of the early settlers of Lynden.

Just checking in as I have been working on the Walworth-Walsworth line of some time and keep trying to add all and then tie them together if possible. Can't seem to find a Wayne Roy Walworth. Is it possible I could get some dates and Places? I do have a lot of family from Michigan as I was born and raised in Lenawee County Michigan. If anyone goes the the Michigan reunion I sure hope they gather as much family history as possible. I have been able to tie in quite a few of the Walworth's but found many weren't related until further down the line at times. For some reason we seem to merge together no matter where we came from.

So do you know what happen to Ellen or Helen and her children after frank died? Did they leave the island? Did she remarry? I think the Ontario Cemetery listing has some Forbes graves listed on Wolfe Island. Did you ever find Ellen/Helen's birth registration?

The children are all listed as born in Ontario but the parents are listed as born in Ireland. If the above Ellen is the same who married Francis Caverly she would have been born about 1870. I search 1870 to 1873 but could not find a birth record for Helen or Eleanor. On a marriage record for Frank Caverly and Helen Forbes her age is shown as 24 in 1897 which would make her birth 1873.

Try to find more details on Francis Caverly’s family is going to be a problem. The surname looks like Cavlary or Caveary. On ancestry it was transcribed as Carbary.

I looked briefly at the 1911 census with no luck finding the family survivors since Francis died in 1905. At least they spelled the name Caverly on his grave marker for which I have a photo.

I did find the death record for Forbes, Chas – d 1 Jan. 1905, Wolfe Island, #010677, page 781, County of Frontenac, name of person making return, Mrs. F. Caverly. So Eleanor would be about 32, Andrew 14 and Nellie 12 when Francis Caverly died. Looks like Eleanor’s father died 8 month before her husband’s death so 1905 was a very bad year for her.

I can find Charles Forbes, age 40, in the 1891 census for Wolfe Island.
The marriage record indicates Helen Forbes and her mother as Rebecca Anderson.

I found a Mrs. Eleanor Esford (correct to Forbes) b abt 1877 d 19 Feb.1933 with parents listed as Samuel Forbes and Rebecca Anderson, Informant was a dau, Mrs. Helen Jackson.

Looks like more searching will be needed but the different spellings are a challenge.

I have a James B Caverly born 22 Nov 1829 In Frontenac, On Canada married to a Margaret Ann Horning born 8 jun 1834 (unknow location right now) married on 15 mar 1859 Frontenac, ON, CAN who are the parents of Framcis E born on 28 sept 1871. They had two children a Andrew on 11 May 1891 & Nellis on 10 sept 1893

I found another Francis Caverly in my files. I have him filed under Irish Caverlys. Born Francis Archibald Caverly, 21 Apr. 1897, Ontario, Canada. I believe his parents immigrated from England abt. 1888.

I know William Darcy McKeough of the Chatham area did research on the Walkers. He was a local MPP many years ago. His wife is a Walker. I believe he donated a lot of his research to the local Ontario Genealogy Society branch near Windsor.

Thanks for the message. Francis E. (Frank) Caverly & Helen Forbes are somewhat difficult to tie down. They don’t seem to show in various census records for Canada and the USA. There is a marriage record for 30 Apr 1897, Wolfe Island, Ontario, Canada so the dates of children you provided was surprising. Can you tell me where you found the info? There is a grave stone on Wolfe Island for Francis E. Caverly died 15 Sep 1905 at 34 years. Possibly Helen remarried since she would still be young at the time of Frank’s death.
Let me know what else I can tell you, I believe you found much of my posted details already. I look forward to your reply and possibly sharing more details about this couple.

Yes I do have more. Mae was my grandfather's sister. She was born in Van Wert County OH. Her name was actually Mary. She was married twice, her first husband was Charles Emerick the son of a Circuit Court judge. The marraige didn't last ten yrs because in 1900 census showed her Mary High living with her parents George and Mina High. She married Charles Emerick in 1901 by the 1910 census she was living back at home with her parents going by Mae High this time.

Her parents and grandfather Daniel High is buried in the Hillman and Rust Twp Cemetery, so are her 2 brothers Oscar and Charles. I have a picture of their family taken about 1900 on my wall.
