Dow City News
by Maxine Cross
The Thomas family reunion was held July 4, 5, and 6 in Baker City, Oregon at the Thomas Angus Ranch with 53 family members in attendance.
Robert J. Thomas of Baker City, a long time ranchers and nationally known Angus breeder, hosted the event for the children, grandchildren, and kin of Merton and Martha Thomas, who lived 3 miles southwest of Dow City, Iowa.
Robert's sister, Ruth Lyon of Davenport, Iowa and his three living brothers, Jim of Conroe, Texas, Dick of Des Moines, Iowa and Bill of Seattle, Washington attended with members of their families and many cousins.
The family group rode on a float in the Haines, Oregon 4th of July parade, cheering their hometown using the Dow City Fight song, led by Steven B. Thomas of Kansas City. Meetings and meals were held at the Baker City family ranch homes and a trip to the Anthony Lake Recreational Area was on the schedule.
George "Jack" Brasel of Canon City, Colorado (also formerly of Dow City), an uncle, was a special guest at the reunion.
