Kruse-Friedrichsen Cousins Reunion

A reunion of the Chris and Christine (Gottburg) Kruse cousins and the Martin and Anna (Gottburg) Friedrichsen cousins took place on June 27-29. The grandmothers of these cousins, Christine Kruse and Anna Friedrichsen were sisters and both lived in Schleswig.

Chris and Christina Kruse owned and operated the Kruse Hardware Store until 1912 when they moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Martin Friedrichsen was a carpenter and then he and his wife farmed for many years until retiring to Schleswig. The group was last in Denison in 1999, with the Friedrichsen cousins journeying to Thief River Falls in June of 2001.

On Friday night, the cousins all met at a motel conference room in Denison for refreshments and visiting. On Saturday morning some of the group toured Schleswig and the Morgan Cemetery, before all gathered at the community room in Denison for lunch. On Saturday evening most of the group gathered at the farm home of Charles and Sharon Bandow of Denison, for dinner and more visiting. Sunday morning found everyone enjoying a brunch at the motel before saying their farewells and leaving for their homes.

Bill Kruse of Honolulu, Hawaii could not make it to the reunion, but he had a fresh bouquet of Hawaiian flowers delivered direct from Hawaii to Sharon Bandow to be shared with the group.

Those attending from the Kruse family included: Larry and Bea Kruse, Bud (John) Jr. and Betty Kruse and Wayne Kruse and Merf, all of St. Hilaire, MN; Dick and Ginny Kruse, Thief River Falls, MN; Bob and Shirley (Kruse) Sorvig, Red Lake Falls, MN; Jack and Bev (Kruse) Cousins, Moorhead, MN; Arnie and Bonnie Kruse Maxbass, ND; Ron and Judy (Maxson) Aurora, CO; Rick, Lucy, and Roman Schmidt, Arvada, CO; Joanne (Kruse) Huffsmith LaCanada, CA; Cheryl and Neil Johnson Glendorn, CA; Michele Arriaza-Silva Monrovia, CA; Trici Kruse, Colorado Springs, CO; Bill Sundholm, New Brighton, MN; and Janice Maxson of Monticello, MN.

Those attending from the Friedrichsen family included: Les and Ruth Friedrichsen, Diana (Friedrichsen) Jarman, Des Moines; Bob and Marge (Friedrichsen) Christie, Elkhorn, NE; Dr. Al Friedrichsen, New Orleans, LA; Herbert and Rose Wellendorf, Ida Grove; Vicki (Miller) and Sara Mildenstein, Iowa City; Howard and Charlene (Moeller) Iversen, Vail; and Charles and Sharon (Moeller) Bandow, all of Denison.

The next reunion will be in Minnesota in the summer of 2005.
