Morehouse Family Reunion 2013

We are planning a Morehouse family reunion in Sandy Cove, Digby County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Tentative dates are July 31 to August 2, 2013. This reunion is for anyone who is descended from, or otherwise connected to, any of the three United Empire Loyalist brothers who arrived in Nova Scotia 230 years ago this year. While focusing mainly on the two brothers who settled in Digby Coounty, John Morehouse in Sandy Cove, and James Morehouse in Centerville, descendants of Jonathan Morehouse, who settled in Annapolis, Nova Scotia and Daniel Morehouse, who settled in York County, New Brunswick, are also welcome. These brothers are descended from Stephen and Elizabeth Silliman Morehouse of Redding CT. We will have genealogy workshops for those interested in investigating their roots in this part of Nova Scotia, exploration of the sites related to these Loyalist Morehouses, and time to meet new cousins as well as explore the museums of the area. You may request more information and/or register for this event by contacting me, Carol Measham, directly at Morehouse.Reunion2013@aol.com. We hope that you will be able to join us.

Re: John Calvert from Yorkshire

That may well be my great-grandfather. My grand-father (also named John) was born in Great Driffield Yorkshire in about 1865. His father was a tailor. He had a brother called James. John (Jnr) migrated to Australia where he was a Methodist minister all his life. He died in Sydney around the time of WW2 when my mother was still in her late teens (he was already 61 when she was born). Although he begged his brother and father to join him in Australia, they ended-up migrating to BC. I believe they first settled in Kamloops and moved to Salmon Arm later. In 1910 my grandfather paid his brother a visit in BC and we have letters (and possibly) postcards of the trip. I understand that when James retired he was active in a yacht club either at Salmon Arm or nearby. There were no offspring of James but an female adoptee or ward who used to sent my mother a "Beautiful BC" calendar every year until sometime in the 1970s. My grandfather typed letters to the BC family regularly and always kept a copy. The copies are still in the family with an aunt. I am not sure if it is the same person but that is what I know and it may help you.

HOWSE/LIVINGSTONE Reunion Held This Last August at Victoria Settlement

Once again, the reunion was very much a success. Not only did we see some new faces but we also were able to celebrate a milestone for the Livingstone Family. Bert Livingstone turned 70 years young. He is the first in his family to reach that wonder age. Congrats to Bert and thank you to his family for the wonderful dinner spread that they provided.

This reunion of Howse's & Livingstone's is held each year on the third weekend in August at the Victoria Settlement which is located on the north banks of the North Saskatchwan River just east of Edmonton and south of Smokey Lake, Alberta. So if anyone is a descendant of the Howse Family or of the Livingstone Family, please accept this as your invitation to attend in the future. Hopefully we will see you there next year.

Help the Belanger Family Association celebrate Canada’s 400th Anniversary and attend a huge family reunion.
The 1980 reunion had over 4,000 in attendance. Can this one be as large?

Visit
http://www.genealogie.org/famille/belanger/

This is the official announcement for the Belanger family reunion to take place 20 and 21 September 2008 at Chateau Richer, Quebec. Please register as early as possible so they will know how many to expect, especially from the USA. There is a link to follow for hotel and motel accomodations. If there is anything on the site you don't understand, please don't hesitate to ask me at N1NH@tds.net.
Jim Belanger.
2008 Settlers' Day - Drummond Island Families

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is now 2008 and we are well into the year of the Drummond Islanders, as the Town of Penetanguishene will shortly proclaim. Two years ago, our Settlers’ Day committee determined that the Drummond Islanders families would be our selection for 2008. Choosing a group and not just one family was a departure from our usual procedure but in the 180 years since their arrival, they have all made a significant contribution to the economic, social or cultural development of our town.
Our planning committee of volunteers has come up with ideas for a truly wonderful September weekend and we hope you will join us and all the descendants of these families in honouring this remarkable group of people.

A list of events and a registration form can be found on our website: www.pencenmuseum.com

Go to Events and Exhibits, click on the icon and when the new window appears, scroll down to the bottom paragraph “Settlers’ Days 1008”. Use the blue slider (what do they call those things?) to see the link to the flyer and the forms. The flyer has all the latest information regarding times and prices.

Now that you have read the event sheet, there are a few important items I should mention…………….

You do not have to register to purchase tickets to the Meet ‘n Greet or the fundraising dinner. You can obtain tickets by calling the office (705) 549-2150.
We are thrilled to have obtained John Bentley Mays as our guest speaker. His award winning book “Arrivals” has an important section on the history of the Drummond Islanders and their contribution to Ontario history.
If you are part of a large group and would like to sit together during the dinner, we can accommodate your request – just let us know.
We ask that children who attend the dinner be at least 12 years of age. If you are coming from out-of-town and must bring your children, we can arrange entertainment for them while you attend the dinner.
Please note: purchase your dinner tickets early. Last year’s dinner was sold out well before September and most of the people on the waiting list could not be seated for dinner.
The Saturday and Sunday events are free with the exception of the breakfast.
The maps will be sold in the gift shop.
Two of the events are being held at the local Legion because we decided to involve other non-profit groups.
Discovery Harbour closes officially for the season on Labour Day weekend but will be
re-opened on Sunday for a guided tour of some of the buildings and the grounds.
We will have local French-Canadian entertainment at the Friday night and Saturday events.
We have limited space in the Great Hall so reserve your family table early. Bring your research, documents and photos. After hours security is excellent.
We welcome the donation of items for the silent auction.

This is your party and your family reunion. Mark your calendars. Tell your cousins and friends.
If you have any other questions, please direct them to genealogy@pencenmuseum.com

Pam Tessier
Research Co-ordinator
Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives

Re: Shaw Family Reunion in PEI Canada

Hi I am not sure if i replied to this - i just got another click and noticed your message....I do not have a Lucy Shaw in my tree - sorry!

It may provide a clue with Matthews name being Stanley Shaw Irving - Stanley may be perhaps Lucy's father's first name OR her mothers maiden name before she married a Shaw.....

I do have Shaws out west - however he did not marry.

Please do check out the Island Register at www.islandregister.com - there are two Shaw trees posted - but I don't recall seeing a Lucy in the other one ....but I could be wrong.

Whats neat is that my great great grandmother was a Stanley....from up west PEI - Cape Traverse area. Her name was Edith J Stanley and she married a MacWilliams.

Good Luck

I'm not sure if we have any connection or not, but would love it if you could clarify. My great-great grandmother's name was Lucy Shaw, who married Matthew Irving (his second wife) around 1880 in the Dumfries area. Thier son, Matthew Stanely Shaw Irving, my great-grandfather, emigrated to Canada prior to marrying Emilie Gertrude Butterworth on Nov. 8, 1906, in Minnedosa, Manitoba.
We have been unable to definitively trace this line any further than Matthew and Lucy. If you have any information on this particular Lucy Shaw, I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you,
David Lee Irving (perfessordave@hotmail.com)
