We are hosting a Conway Reunion, August 2-5th 2002 in St.Gabriel de Valcartier, Quebec. Many of our Irish Ancestors first landed here in the 1820's by way of free passage offered by the British in order to settle the land around Quebec City. Most stayed in the area of Valcartier and Ste.Catherine de Portneuf but some moved on to other parts of Canada and the United States... many of our Ancestors went to work in the logging camps in WI, MN, ME, NH. and others joined the volunteers in a fight in the Civil War, I know of 3 brothers that enlisted, two in NY and one in Georgia. Francis Conway was working in the shipyards in Georgia when the war broke out and he joined the 25th regiment, he was mustered out in 1865 and returned to Quebec to marry Bridget Neville, they then returned to the States, and he was last known living in Rochester NY in 1920. His two brothers James and Richard, have never been located since their inscription, though we do know they were mustered out. You can check out the Reunion Website at:
