Hi could some please point me in the right direction I am looking for a death records in the past 5 years place of death unknown but UK.
When I was tracing my family tree I used to go to the family records in Myddleton Street London and look through the books.
My question since Myddleton Street closed where can I go to look at records for the past 5 years
Many thanks
Jill

I am not sure where or even if this person is dead but there is a rumour that the person has passed away hence before anymore research is carried out just thought I would check out the rumour
Thank you

The GRO index of death registrations is only available on-line up to 2007 - after that, if you know where the person may have died you can contact the local registration office, or you need to look at the most recent indexes which are available on microfiche at a number of locations:

Library of Birmingham
Bridgend Reference and Information Library
City of Westminster Archives Centre
Manchester Central Library
Newcastle City Library
Plymouth Central Library
The British Library

I use the British Library for this - the indexes are current up to the most recent complete quarter.

For info, I have found the UK Government wills & probate site very useful if someone has died recently. I would give you the website link but my previous attempt was censored by the Ancestry website administrator. You will be able to easily find it yourself thru a search engine.

Use the 1996 to present tab for recent deaths. Of course, they will only be listed if they have made a will and it has been probated. It can be a pain searching as you have to look at each year individually, but it does give you the actual date of death.

Another place to look for a recent death is through the change in electoral rolls. There is a website that gives you free access to these. Click on 'View Free Results' and also 'More Info' to see who is living at a property. Unfortunately I am not able to give you the website name. (You can email me at mick.downes@live.co.uk for the missing links).

Finally you can also look for newspaper obituaries that are displayed online. There are a lot that can be found online. These are particularly useful as they give lists of relations.
