Vital records access PA and NJ

Running into walls and could use some suggestions. Help!

Regarding PA: I'm trying to find a death certificate from 1972 with no luck. What is the likelihood that it has not yet been released to view? I have successfully found other family member's death certificates from the same town up to 1968.

Regarding NJ: I'm having a hard time finding ANY vital records, with the exception of one index-only record for a birth. If they are mostly index only then I want to gather as much as I can before I go to an LDS Family Search library and ask for the films to be sent. I thought I read somewhere in a thread that NJ records were difficult to search/obtain but I can't seem to find that thread again to review if there were any helpful pointers. To compound this challenge here, I have a fair amount of gaps in the history of many of the family members in this branch of the tree and the last name is very common.

Any input is appreciated!!

Shannon

If you don't get an answer here, repost individual messages on the PA and NJ general boards. Those with local knowledge are more likely to be able to help.

Pennsylvania death certificates through 1964 have been released publicly. For later records, you can order a copy from the PA Dept. of Health if you're eligible (immediate family or direct descendant):
http://www.health.pa.gov/MyRecords/Certificates/FetalDeathSt...

In general, NJ vital records are not available online, but older records can be viewed at the NJ State Archives. If you can provide more specific info about what you're looking for (record type and year), we may be able to provide more specific guidance.

Thanks! I also would benefit from viewing some PA birth certificates for ancestors born in Philly in 1888-1894. Any suggestions?

As far as NJ, I'm looking for the following records that are located in Newark, Irvington, Atlantic City or Camden.

Birth records (1875 through 1918)

Death (1910 through 1950s)

Marriage 1905 +/- 5 years and 1950.

Thanks so much for your guidance!!

Both Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org have Philadelphia city birth records for that period.

For NJ records, this link has info about what records are available at the State Archives and from the NJ Bureau of Vital Statistics:
http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/

For NJ records before 1901, you may need to check with the municipality where the event took place to see what is available.
