Record crossed out on BMD death register.

Record crossed out on BMD death register.

I have found what I think is my ancestor's death in 1861, but the record has a line through it on the register. I can't find a record anywhere else, and it's not in the district where he was living, but the adjacent district. Can anyone shed any light?

Changes to registers made by the Registrar in the UK were required to be initialed and numbered. Laws differ from country to country and, in the case of the United States, from state to state and county to county.

Providing details (name, location, copy of record) will make it easier for someone to help you.

Thank you so much for your reply. The record is for John Wakelin, died July quarter Newcastle on Tyne 1861. My only thoughts are that the writer combined the details of the person above with the person below, and "created" a death for John Wakelin which was wrong. I was surprised to find a record in Newcastle, to be honest, and I'm reluctant to have to buy a death certificate unless I have to.
