Thank you so much for responding. I really appreciate it! I know absolutely nothing about probate or wills in general, and even less about them in the UK (I'm in the US).

I'm 99.99% sure I have the right individuals (the dates of death are consistent with all the information I have). According to my mother (who is from France and is more familiar with all the family lore), they never lived in England. However, I don't know if they owned property. They did own an insurance company - perhaps something about that is a factor.

I suppose I should try and order a copy for each individual. I've never ordered documents from another country before, so I have been dragging my feet. But, I have to bite the bullet sometime! :-)
