Trying to find death information for a very common name in NYC. Help please. :-)

Hello,
My name is Judi. I am using this site to find information for my family tree. I am finding it very useful and fun! The only problem I'm having is whether or not I'm using the search feature correctly. I'm trying to find obituaries (and other useful information) for several of my family members. Donald G (George) Pierce, born about 1915, and his parents, George L. (Lewis) Pierce, Born 1877-1839, and Lillian M. (Campbell) Pierce, born 1888-1981. They lived at 39 Landscape Ave, Yonkers, Westchester County, NY. I believe both George and Lillian died there. In my search, I lose track of Donald G. Pierce around 1945. I did find useful info on another site that shows me that he entered the military around that time, but unfortunately because the name is so common, I am unable to determine which Donald is mine. I thought if I could locate their obituaries, it may help solve the mystery. At the very least, I'm trying to find Donald's death date, and place of death.
Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.
My very best,
Judi

This is a site for New York newspapers, which is free to search. Searching is kind of a learning curve. I usually put in the name I want, then select exact search, but you have to play around with it a bit.

Hello Carol,
Thanks for your reply and the useful information. Yes, I did see the connection to Annamae Pierce, and it is my best guess, however I can't seem to find a way to prove the link between them.
I'm open to suggestions if you have any thoughts on how I may do that. In the meanwhile, I continue my search. :-)
Thanks again!!!

Hi Barb,
Wow, Great information. Thank you! Yes, using the search engines (any of them) seems to be my biggest challenge at this point. I'm not very savvy that way, but trying to learn.
This info is very useful! Thanks again!
Judi

You didn't ask for this one, but I think this is the obituary of Lillian's sister. (You would need to confirm this through additional documentation, though.)

Note: According to George's obituary, his wife's maiden name was Doyle. What is the source of your information that it was Campbell?

Was she married twice?

Here's another instance of the Doyle surname, as evidenced by Raymond Doyle living at 39 Landscape Ave. in 1946.

This MIGHT be Donald's engagement announcement. The names fit, but you would still need to back this up with more documentation.

Note: Cortlandt is in the same county as Yonkers (Westchester County)

UPDATE: THIS IS NOT DONALD G. PIERCE. I found more details and this groom was actually Donald Edward Pierce, who had a brother Kenneth.
