Hi all,
Thought I should start the ball rolling on this board as I asked for it to be created. (Didn't think it would happen; I reported this "issue" to Ancestry a couple of months ago and they haven't corrected it.)
For anyone researching Cranborne; the supposed first 2 decades of records (1580-89 & 1590-99) actually belong to Beaminster, as is evident in the pages preceding the 1907 transcriptions explaining their history, (these transcriptions being the online records). I have no idea whether records for Cranborne for these 2 decades exist; if someone has found them I'd love to know! (They aren't under Beaminster!)
If you are researching Beaminster, the first decade of records, 1580-89, just isn't there, but it is filed under Cranborne! The second decade, 1590-99, is in the right place.
I suppose this thread could also be used for major transcription errors which we are unable to correct.
For example; in Cranborne 1770-79 the first image has 1775 following 1769 (they used to put a sort of tail at the top of the zeroes, making them look a bit like fives) while for the next image the transcription goes back to 1770!
This sort of thing of course leads to problems using the search; but to be honest the transcriptions are generally so bad anyway that I just trawl through the images; checking with Dorset OPC at the same time.
Hope all this is of help to someone,
Sue Sims.
