Ivan DeHaven was killed in Omaha, Nebraska on Dec. 14, 1911 when he stepped off a train. According to the newspaper he was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
As of now we have not been able to locate his grave site in Sterling. We also are curious as to what happened to the land he owned. That information about the location of the land is on the Bureau of Land Management site.
I did check the train investigation site link that has been shared and did not find any information. Thanks for your help. Marcia

DeHaven died in Sedgwick Co, which is just to the east of Logan Co.
in 1915. I am now wondering if there might be someone that could direct me to any probate records for that time.
Marcia

Do you know what month in 1911 the accident occured. The Sterling Journal Advocate has back issues - I do not know how far back but I have looked at issues from the 1930's about 15 to 20 years ago. They had them in regualr newsprint not indexed or on microfilm. Perhaps their office could assist you, if you knew an approximate date. Their were several railroad lines through Sterling. The Union Pacific line from the Northeast to Denver. BurlingtonRoute operated the line which ran from the North to Denver, the Cheyenne line which ran from Sterling to Cheyenne Wyoming, and the Highline which ran from Sterling to the east. I do not know when these lines began operation but they all appear in my 1907 Atlas. The Burlington route is also the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy.

We are wondering if someone could help us find information about "Ivan DeHaven" who died in 1911 in Sterling, Co. He was killed in a railroad accident. We found his name listed on the Bureau of Land Management. He had 120 acres in Sterling, dated 1914. Ivan was born in Michigan, the son of George W. DeHaven and Sadie Lent DeHaven.
Perhaps there might be some legal information in court papers about this land as Ivan was not married. Also, is there a way to research which trains went into Sterling in 1911.
Thank you. Marcia DeHaven

Logan Co. Genealogical society has a rather extensive obit file. I'll look this name up when we meet next week and see if we have it. The Sterling Journal Advocate charges an arm and a leg to just bring out their archived copies and then charges about a dollar for each copy. Would need an exact death date for that, also.
