Michael Oliver Dautel is my husband's grandfather and he was born in Ringtown, PA March 16, 1877. We understand that his father came from Berlin and fought in the Civl War where he was injured but we have no dates. Michael Oliver settled in Oklahoma (Alva) but do not know when he arrived there. Would appreciate any information you might be able to pass on to me.

I have found that Michael Oliver and Henry George were brothers. Their father George Elmer was born 7/1830 in Berlin, Germany. He died in Kansas around 1886. According to family that I have spoken with George came to America as a stowaway. I have not been able to find a passenger list with his name on it. I did find that he did serve in the civil war but no matches with the information given in the census. Also find no records of the family before coming to America, wondering if the name or spelling my have been changed. Any help would be appreciated.

J.F. D'autel born about 1775 in France immigrated to Württemberg (probably related to the Napoleonic phenomenon. In 1820 J.F.D'autel came to the US on a Baltimore ship through the Charleston, SC port. There is no mention of his wife on the ship's log, but it mentions that he came with children. Perhaps, she was younger and thought to be one of the children or she came later, which was common. One of the children's names was Johann (John) F. D'Autel (the F. is believed to stand for Friederich). It would appear that the German mother named one child after someone in her family. I believe the other children were named Josephine and Napoleon. I wonder if they went to Ohio first and the wife died there. Then, perhaps he packed up the children and went to Georgia.

J.F's son, Johann (John) F. D'Autel was born in Germany in 1807 in Württemberg. He died in Wilkes Co. Georgia and is buried near Bethel Church. My information does not indicate if Johann's father J.F. D'Autel was buried in the same place. They came over together in 1820. They may have moved around a bit, but settled in Wilkes Co., Georgia. The ship's log showed that he came with his father, brothers and sisters.

There must have been another D'Autel in the middle or Johann produced a child late in life on June 4, 1874 at the age of 67. The reason is my grandfather Joseph Franklin D'Autel was born on that date in Wilkes County, GA. He died April 2, 1933 in Augusta Georgia. His father is listed as, also, Johann F. D'Autel. I suspect that was a Junior. There is no mention of a wife, but it is thought to be someone named Sarah Helena Glade.

Joseph Franklin D'Autel, born 1874 married my grandmother, Ruby Waters, in 1912 in Wilkes Country, GA. Both of them died in Augusta, Georgia. He died 4/2/33; She died 12/12/77. They had two daughters, Emma and Sarah D'Autel. Sarah is still alive and living in California. My mother was Emma and died in 1952 in Augusta, GA.

There were other children and their fate may be listed in marriage/death records of Wilkes Co, Georgia, or even possibly Augusta,GA.

My sister, Kay, lives in Charlotte, NC and she says there is a D'Autel living there. Some people drop the apostrophe.

I am going to blind copy my relative who gathered much information to see if this jives with his records. If he has corrections, I will let you know. Helen McDonald
