Look up requests Revolutionary War and Harlan Co., KY
I need a look up for land grant records for those who served in the Revolutionary War. My ancestor called "Gyspsy" James Smith fought with Marion Anderson and settled in NC or SC. In Anderson's roster he is listed as a private.
I am also seeking help with the following.
My ancestors lived in Harlan Co. between 1930 and 1955. They were a very extended family of freemen and women of color. They owned land near Caney Creek, Laurel Fork and Long Branch.
Their names, in part, were (all smith except one):
Waddy Smith
Waddy T. or Walt T.
Nancy
Andrew
Osborn
Madison
Mary
Margaret
Martha
Noah
James
Rosannah Hips
Nancy Burden
Some were born in Harlan Co. Some died there. But, I have not been able to locate any records of them other than the 1850 census and in land records.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
