My grandfather's (William Ascough b 1897) grandfather was a John Ascough who is buried in West Tanfield churchyard (not far from Masham). William's grandfather would presumably have been born around 1852 like the John you refer to. John's son was George Henry Ascough.

We think an ancestor was landlord of the Black Bull Inn in West Tanfield during the 19th or early 20th century.

Where is Markington, and is Staveley the one near Chesterfield? Use direct e-mail if you wish.

I would like to know if anyone has found connections to the surnames Ascough, Ayscough, or Acuff. I am looking for links to the above surnames that migrated to America mid 1600s from York, UK. Please e-mail responses to: billacuff@bigfoot.com.
