Some of you may be involved in research that requires alumni directories published by colleges and universities.
As part of my research as a bibliographer of adoption, including books useful in The Search, I have collected bibliographic citations for hundreds of alumni directories that were published in the United States..
Send me an e-mail if you need a citation for a particular college. By the way, I don't know what libraries have the directories---except that many of them are in the Library of Congress, which is in
Washington, D.C.
We can't all visit
Washington of course. In the 1970s, I hired a genealogist who lives in the
Washington Metropolitan Area to do a little research on my immigrant ancestor, and it wasn't expensive. Ancestry.com has forums for individual states, and the names of many genealogists can be found attached to queries or replies.
You may wonder what information is in a typical directory. I don't know because I deal with the bibliographic citations only---I don't see the actual books. Wherever possible, I keep track of colleges' name changes.
