I am trying to assist a friend who is seeking information on her biological mother. Her mother was Iris May Potter who in 1947 gave birth to her beautiful daughter named Ann. At the time Iris was working as a weaver in Hoddle/Melbourne Victoria. The father's name is David Lang a wool classer living in Brighton, Victoria. Based on what we know Iris was 23 years old when her daughter was born making her own birth date around 1924. Iris May Potter may have been born in Tasmania and returned there after the birth of her daughter who was given up for adoption. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Mary Eugene Newell died 8 July 1996. A death notice was published in the Daily Telegraph (Sydney) on 9 July 1996.

Dorothy Beryl Newell died in NSW on 3 August 2004. A death notice was published in the Daily Telegraph (Sydney) on 5 August 2004.

They arrived in Australia a married couple without children (see arrival Dec 1847 "China"); he was from the Borders, she from Isley Farm Warkton Northants. We don't have a marriage rtecord but would most certainly love to sight one, partcularly because we don't know exactly where or who he is from, but that he was a Scot.

At a wild guess, I would say that you are descended from Josiah's Great Granddughter (D of his Grandson Isaac). Mary Ann Godber married Griffin Radford in 1859.

I am a decendant of Josiah Godber. My cousin Malcom Godber has traced the tree in some detail. I have a copy of Josiah's letters that are held at the National Library of Australia. I migrated to Australa in the 1980s but Josiah had no children here. However, it is good to know I am not the first to come to the wide brown land.

A Divorce for Henderson

Hi, I am looking for a divorce for Frederick John Henderson, born 1918 in Sydney. On his death certificate,(1980 in Victoria) he is down as divorced, but I can find no record of it. There are 2 possible marriages in the NSW BMD, for him, one with the name Hendy and the other Synold. Any help appreciated.

Have birth certs for Edith's marriages..."S" and on each one her parents name differs from slight to completely different, however I am well aquainted with her children ( my Grandmother and her siblings.) There is also a marriage in SA for Mary Elizabeth Anderson (father listed as John Balfour Anderson) to Roland Young 1897-03-04.

It would seem that Edith and Myra never married?? Search for the name Anderson and you will see their burials and also one for a John George Balfour Anderson.

jmc, Thanks so much you were so right, I have been trying to find this for 12 months. Is there any chance that you could help me with her husband JOHN BALFOUR ANDERSON. Death. Her death notice says she was the widow of, so I would presume that means he died before 1932. I am beginning to wonder if there may have been a divorce as, her daughter ( my G Grandmother) has listed on her marriage cert.mother (1925) Elizabeth Anderson...which is where the real mystery begins. On another of her marriage certs the name Elizabeth Lewis (1900) as mother. Think my great gran might be a VERY interesting girl.
