For anyone interested, photoduplication services from Family History Library is now provided digitally and sent to you via email at no cost. You can email your requests providing the necessary information as you would on the form. Forms are no longer necessary, either. As it used to be $2 per copy, it is now provided for free.
Turnaround time is much quicker, too. It took about 10 days to receive my photocopies.

Thanks for posting this. I just signed up for familysearch.org and just picked a center...can you explain the photo duplication you were referring to? Is this just a scanning service where you bring in photos you would like to add to your family tree and the center scans them for you? Is that what you were talking about?

No, it is not a scanning service for your photos. Actually, I think the name Photoduplication is a poor way of referring to what is just a copy of a document on film. But, that is what they call it.
What they do is provide a digital copy of items in their catalog. If you go on the familysearch.org website, go into the catalog and you will see a list of their holdings on film. If you give them the film # and the name of the person you are researching and whether it is a birth, marriage or death certificate, they will send you a copy of a certificate via email. You will need to have the certificate number first before you can look up the film # in the catalog. It is a little bit of a process to look them up and takes some time, but after you do it a couple of times, it's easy. You can either mail, fax or email in your requests. No need to visit your local familiy history center.
I do much research in the NYC area and I am fortunate in that I use www.italiangen.org or germangenealogygroup.com which provides a huge database of marriage, birth & death certificate #'s of various years for the 5 boroughs of NYC. Even at $2 a copy it was well worth going through familysearch than the New York City Municipal Archives, which I believe charges $15 for each certificate. Now there is no cost because they send the copies of certificates as a file in your email.

Here is the link from familysearch that explains the service:

Wow, so instead of ordering the film I could just request the info I am looking for? That made my day!

Yes, that's correct, providing you supply this info:

You MUST include the Film or Fiche number, item number, Name of Individual you are researching, Title of record and name of parents, spouse, grantor, grantee, etc, Event type (Birth, Death or Marriage), Complete event date and place, Parish and volume or page number and registration or Certificate Number and any other information that will be helpful in locating your record

Have you made a request recently? A request I made in February was returned in 5 days. A request in March took about 2 weeks. I now have a request from May 1 that is still outstanding.

In addition, a request for a status update via e-mail to Photoduplication Support made on June 13 has gone unanswered.

This is really odd. I make that post and within a half hour I got my June 25 order.

Edited to add: Actually the order I just got was placed on August 9. I am still waiting for June 25 order.

Edited again to add: June 25 order came today also. Maybe they were behind and suddenly caught up.

"Maybe they were behind and suddenly caught up.'

I think you may be right. My request of 8/4 arrived on 8/14. The one from May 1st that I had been concerned about arrived on July 20th.

It may have had something to do with their free form e-mail request switch-over to the structured form they are now using.
