My grandparents owned a 500 acre tobacco and dairy farm in what is now Hurdle Mills, NC. The house was built in 1864 and still stands and I'd like to get the history of the property. I am hitting dead ends on where to start, online resources are only providing information for last 15 years. Please advise and thank you!

Find the parcel on the Person County GIS map to get the tax parcel record number.

Person County Register of Deeds. Call the office with your questions and their assistance.

Looks like Internet Explorer is the only browser that will work for me on the deed search pages.

This may also help:

Look up your grandparents in censuses, city directories and the acreage in older maps.

Hurtle Mills was incorporated in 1892 with the town being given the name in 1852 when the Hurtle Family bought the mill. It straddles the southern county line of Person County and northern Orange county. Person county is today considered Hurtle Mills "home county". So you should look for records in Person and Orange County.
