How Do I Find the Current Day Location of My Ancestor's Property?

Obviously I do not know what I'm doing here! I've been going around in circles trying to figure out how you look at an historical atlas then find the same area in the present day. I want to see exactly where my ancestor's lived but I can't work out how to do it. Most of them were farmers so even when I do find them in a City Directory all it says is "section 5" of the city or county, no street or road name, no house number. I can't even seem to locate a current atlas online for places. Help! How do you find current day places? Thanks for any and all help!

I like what your're trying to do. What State are you looking for land records in? Here's a website that tells you a lot of things on how to get started doing land record research. http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mdtmgug/education/la...

Assuming your ancestors owned land, you WILL be able to find exactly where it is today- maybe not in the same form but it WILL be there.
