Re: Landowners, circa 1870s
My father was Frederick James Anderson ( born around 1902) who lived in Toberhead as a boy and was probably born there. He joined the army at around 14 or 15 yrs old, he was in the Irish Fusilliers and served in Burma, met and married Primrose Hester Andree in Bombay (now Mumbai), India in 1943.They came to live in Gateshead,England and then moved to Northern Ireland in 1945 ish. (they had 9 children ) I have no record of my father as having siblings but I think he probably had one possibly a male who moved to either America or Canada . I remember him speaking of a family member who imigrated but that was a long time ago and the memory has faded. I know his Anderson family owned lands in Northern Ireland before and around the late 1800s and think one or more of them has to be in this list >>>
31. Hugh Anderson, address Church-st., Coleraine, owned 86 acres. 32. James Anderson, address Culmore, Ballykelly, owned 124 acres. 33. James Anderson, sen., address Curragh, Maghera, owned 22 acres. 34. James Anderson, jun., same address, owned 52 acres. 35. John Anderson, address Toberhead, Magherafelt, owned 34 acres.(THIS ONE IS A POSSIBILITY) 36. Marcus Anderson, address Terrydrum, Newtownlimavady, owned 10 acres. 37. Matthew Anderson, address Fallogloon, Maghera, owned 10 acres. 38. Samuel Anderson, address Drumballyhagan, Tobermore, owned 45 acres. 39. Samuel Anderson, address Fallogloon, Maghera, owned 10 acres. 40. Samuel Anderson, address Slaghtabogy, Knockcloughrim, Castledawson, owned 59 acres. 41. Rev. Wm. Anderson, address Cumber, owned 113 acres. 42. William Anderson, address Curragh, Maghhera, owned 24 acres
A couple of names that run in his family are, William( nic Willy), Robert (nic Bobby) and James Anderson, , possibly John but I am not sure of this. Can someone please look up census records and see where he comes in . No 36 looks a likely candidate to be a relative? I can remember his cousins Willy (*William maried to an Agnes ****) and Bobby Anderson who lived at Knockloughrim area . They also had links in Curran but I am not sure what !!!! I also know that he had an UNCLE Robert Anderson who had lands which were passed on to *William (Willy Anderson) by default, all of the above are now deceased. Thank you.
