Findagrave isn't a nice place

It's been a wonderful site for the most part. I don't understand why one would say their memorials were given to someone else by Admins especially if they asked to be removed.
Many of my memorials were 'lost' when they tried to fix a problem for me but it had no connection with anyone trying to beef up their numbers. This isn't a contest!

The thing that has bother me are the people who think that because it's on the Internet it's OK to take and post to another website. It isn't. I had someone take ALL of my photos and those of others from a cemetery this year and post them to a genealogy site. She never asked me for permission to use a single one and was quite upset that I caught her doing this.
I reported this to both F.A.G. and Ancestry who now owns F.A.G. The woman was told by the other site Admin. to take them off after I contacted her.

Anytime a person takes a photograph (shoots a photo) that photograph is automatically owned (copyrighted) and it's a shame many don't think they need to ask permission to use the work of the photographer. It seems we live in a society that just wants to take, take, take and not bother to recognize that someone had to drive there to take photos and sometimes cleaning weeds from around a stone so it could be read. I also spent a lot of money when I was using a film camera.

It only takes a couple of minutes to ask.
I know many will disagree with me but the law is on the side of the photographer. I always ask permission to use &/or post a notice (when it comes to other things such as maps).

Its funny, I stumbled over this & realize its a bit old but I need to add in my 2 pennies.
I'm a photographer, I do it for pay & as a side, I'm not a lawyer but I do know a bit about how my pictures can be used but I never minded putting them on F.A.G.
The photos I post there are for the people who are related to the person buried at the gravestone, usually not my family as I am far from my ancestors bones & many of them due to religious beliefs do not have gravestones.
So if they want to use my pictures posted on the site for their lines, so be it, I'm happy they liked them enough to use them.

I would appreciate those that do it for my family to extend the same courtesy, many have already for which I am eternally grateful.

But if someone who didn't take the pictures think they are going to take me to task for using someone else pictures then they are going to get an earful from me about it. They are not privy to any conversations I may have had or may not have had with the picture taker so they need to Shut the Heck up & go to mindyaownbizness town.

As for F.A.G being used as a genealogy resource, I will & that's my choice. (General) you don't like it go to the town mentioned above & also Blow Off village. Last I checked I served in the military in the USA so you could have your opinions & I can have mine. This garbage of others needing to mind others business is one reason I've turned my trees into private whereas they were public for years before that.

I agree F.A.G. is no longer a nice place, it seems to have fallen into the same attitude of the webs animosity & anonymous users syndrome where they can be right snits online but would never do that face to face with someone.
