I have also thought about adding index cards. I have 3-ring notebooks with my family group sheets and copies of supporting documentation, ie. birth and death records, census records, etc. The 3-ring binders are full and have grown to about 15 of them. I use Family Tree Maker, also. But 4 x 6 index cards might be used for each main individual. I would put the vital info. I have on the front, ie. dates of birth, marriage, etc. and just leave blank what I don't have. When I get a message board or posting, it would be easy to pull out an index card and see if they are posting about my ancestors. Sometimes lugging out the 3-ring binders and opening FTM to check a new record or posting seems like so much more work! Good luck with your idea.
